Inspire the Nation

The Sport Australia Hall of Fame was proud to present the annual “Inspire the Nation” event in partnership with previous Major Sponsor Etihad Airways in June 2017.

The “Inspire the Nation” series is an exclusive annual cocktail event, hosted in key Etihad markets. It provides the opportunity for Etihad clients and VIP guests to both meet and hear first-hand stories from our Members about their world-class sporting journeys.

Etihad Airways State Sales Manager, Queensland and Northern Territory, Charles Morley together with SAHOF Member and Board Director Geoff Henke AO welcomed the exclusive group of Etihad VIP guests to the 6th edition, held for the second year running in Brisbane.

SAHOF Member Tim Horan AM took on the role of MC for the evening, proving he was as adept with the microphone as he was across his illustrious Wallabies career.

The special guest panel, led by Horan, featured two official “Legends of Australian Sport” – inaugural female Legend Dawn Fraser AC MBE and 2016 Legend Wally Lewis AM who became only the 38th official “Legend of Australian Sport” when Elevated last year.

The three Aussie sporting greats enthralled guests with a trip down memory lane, sharing personal memories and insights, some “off the record” stories and many laughs.

We wish to thank all of our guests who attended the evening, and appreciate all the hard work that went on behind the scenes –our venue hosts, Blackbird Bar & Restaurant Brisbane, AV specialists Velvet Systems, JV Photography for capturing the night and of course our fabulous panel, MC and Members.

When considering the stature of an athlete or for that matter any person, I set great store in certain qualities which I believe to be essential in addition to skill. They are that the person conducts his of her life with dignity, with integrity, courage, and perhaps most of all, with modesty. These virtues are totally compatible with pride, ambition, and competitiveness.
