“When considering the stature of an
athlete or for that matter any person, I set
great store in certain qualities which I
believe to be essential in addition to
skill. They are that the person conducts
his of her life with dignity, with integrity,
courage, and perhaps most of all,
with modesty. These virtues are totally
compatible with pride, ambition, and
competitiveness.”

Sir Donald Bradman speaking at his
induction into The Sport Australia Hall of
Fame, 1985

He knew what was needed but no man in Olympic history had ever done it. When Matthew Mitcham leapt from the ten metre tower the world thought he was diving for silver.... in fact he was aiming at gold. He had left the sport in 2006 but returned at Beijing to become the first Australian diving gold medalist since 1924. His score of 112 point ten - the highest recorded in Olympic history.
