“When considering the stature of an
athlete or for that matter any person, I set
great store in certain qualities which I
believe to be essential in addition to
skill. They are that the person conducts
his of her life with dignity, with integrity,
courage, and perhaps most of all,
with modesty. These virtues are totally
compatible with pride, ambition, and
competitiveness.”

Sir Donald Bradman speaking at his
induction into The Sport Australia Hall of
Fame, 1985

Australia's First Cricket Team to Tour England (Cricket) - 1868

Of all Australia’s famous teams, this was arguably the first international touring side and one of the more unusual. In 1868 battling poor health and lack of organisation, a party of aboriginals under Charles Lawrence played 47 cricket matches in England, commendably winning 14 and drawing 19.
