John Bertrand AM - Chairman
John Bertrand was skipper of 'Australia II', winner of the America's Cup in 1983. The victory broke 132 years of American domination and as a result, broke the longest running sports record in modern sporting history. A former world champion and Olympic bronze medallist in Montreal 1976, John represented Australia in five America's Cups (1970, 1974, 1980, 1983 and 1995) and two Olympic Games (1972 Munich and 1976 Montreal). John is also a Member of the International America's Cup Hall of Fame. He is now Chairman of television production and distribution company World Wide Entertainment and the Alannah and Madeline Foundation. Ron Barassi AM - Director
In his first 26 years of senior football he took part - as player, captain or coach - in 17 grand finals to take home ten premierships. He played 204 VFL/AFL games with the Melbourne Football Club and 50 with the Carlton Football Club. He represented Victoria 18 times, gained All Australian selection in three successive interstate carnivals and was chosen as All-Australian captain in 1961. He was premiership coach of Carlton and North Melbourne Football Clubs and coach of Melbourne and Sydney Swans Football Clubs. He was captain/coach of the touring team to Ireland in 1967 and 1968. He is a Legend of the AFL Hall of Fame, a Member of the AFL Foundation Board, and was a Board Member of the Sydney Swans Football Club from 1995 to 2003. Appointed to the SAHOF Board in May 2002

Rob de Castella MBE - Director
Rob is a former marathon world champion and record holder. He represented Australia at four Olympic Games (1980, 1984, 1988, 1992) and won gold at two Commonwealth Games (1982, 1986). He is a former Board Member of the Australian Sports Commission and former Director of the Australian Institute of Sport. As an outspoken advocate for community fitness and health, he is Chairman of the Leisure Australia Foundation, Managing Director of SmartStart (Australia) Pty Ltd, and Director of Deeks Bakery and Cafe. Appointed to the SAHOF Board in May 1997

John Eales AM - Director
John participated in two successful World Cup campaigns, captained the Wallabies in memorable victories including the 1999 World Cup, led Australia through three Bledisloe Cups and two seasons of Tri-Nations fixtures. He led the Wallabies to their first ever series victory over the British and Irish Lions. John is currently a Director of the Mettle Group, the Australian Sports Commission, International Quarterback, and QM Technologies. He also consults to BT Financial Group. Appointed to the SAHOF Board in May 2005

Lindsay Gaze OAM - Director
Lindsay represented Australia as a basketball player in three Olympics and as a coach in four Olympics. He is a Board Member of VicHealth and Member of the Advisory Committee of the Council of Our Community. He was a Member of the Board of Directors of Oz 97 World Championships and is a Member of the International Basketball Federation Technical Commission. He is a consultant to Basketball Stadiums Victoria and the former coach of the Melbourne Tigers National Basketball League club. Currently Lindsay consults for one of the Chinese basketball teams and is Chief Administrator of the Melbourne Basketball Association. Appointed to the SAHOF Board in May 1997

Nicholas Green OAM - Director (Australian Olympic Committee)
Nick was a founding member of the 'Oarsome Foursome' a rowing crew that won two Olympic gold medals (1992 and 1996) and four world titles in the coxless fours. Nick was appointed the Athlete Services Director for the 2002 Australian Winter Olympic Team and also held a position on the Athletes' Commission for the Australian Olympic Committee (2000 to 2004). Nick served on the Executive Committee of the Victorian Olympic Council as Vice-President from 2001 to 2004 and was recently elected President. He is an Executive Member of the Australian Olympic Committee and is currently the National Manager of Game and Club Development for Golf Australia. Appointed to the SAHOF Board in August 2005

Geoffrey Henke AO - Director
Geoff represented Australia in ice hockey, and has been Chef de Mission of six Australian Winter Olympic Games teams. He was a Board Member of the Australian Ski Federation from 1978 to 1983 and President from 1983 to 1989. He was a Director of the Confederation of Australian Sport from 1979 to 1984 and is a past Vice-President of the Australian Olympic Committee. He is an Honorary Life Member of the Australian Olympic Committee, Member of the Olympic Order, Chairman of the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia and a Council Member of the Federation Internationale de Ski. Appointed to the SAHOF Board in March 1997

Karen Moras Stephenson - Director
Karen won three Commonwealth Games gold medals at the 1970 Edinburgh British Commonwealth Games in the 200m, 400m, and 800m freestyle and held the world record for the 400m and 800m freestyle. She represented Australia at the 1968 Mexico and 1972 Munich Olympics, winning bronze in the 400m in Mexico, and was swimming team captain in Munich. Karen is a former Member of the Federal Sports Advisory Commission and former Trustee of the Sydney Cricket Ground and Football Stadium. She managed the women's swim team at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games and was Section Manager Swimming at the 2004 Athens Olympics. She is currently Aquatic Director at Presbyterian Ladies College in Sydney. Appointed to the SAHOF Board in October 2000

Mark Peters - Director (Australian Sports Commission)
Mark was a national baseball team member and captain over a ten year international career and has coached various sports at club and state level. He was President of the Australian Baseball Federation, President of the Oceania Baseball Federation and a Board Member of the International Baseball Federation before stepping down from these positions to take up his current position as Chief Executive Officer at the Australian Sports Commission. Mark took up his present position with the challenge of continuing Australia's sporting success post Sydney 2000. With tertiary qualifications in Business and Recreation Planning, he has worked extensively in the fields of organisational structure and governance, tourism, event management, sport and recreation. He is presently the Australian Government's representative on the Commonwealth Advisory Body on Sport and the Commonwealth Institute's Research Committee. Appointed to the SAHOF Board in May 2002

Michael Sparks - Director (Confederation of Australian Sport)
Michael is President of the Confederation of Australian Sport, the representative body for Australia's national sporting organisations. Michael is also a Member of the Advisory Board to the 11th Australasian Masters Games and is a Board Member of the Sports Management Association of Australia and New Zealand. He is Chairman of Touch Football Australia Inc., one of Australia's largest national sporting organisations. Michael is General Manager of SPORTINFO, a leading sports marketing research agency, and is a Director of Intuitive Solutions and The Intuitive Group. He contributes regularly to the Sports Marketing Quarterly, an international sports marketing journal. Appointed to the SAHOF Board in March 2005

Vicki Wilson OAM - Director
Vicki represented Australia in netball for 15 years between 1985 and 1999, the last four as captain. As the world's best goal shooter, she captained the first-ever gold medal winning team at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games. At the time of her retirement, she was the most capped Australian netballer having played 104 Test matches and is the only Australian player to have played in four World Championships. Committed to the future development of the sport she loves, Vicki was the founder and coordinator of the Secondary Schools Netball championships and is coach of the Queensland Firebirds. She is also a member of the board of the Queensland Academy of Sport, the Major Sports Facilities Authority, and the Queensland School Sport Foundation. In addition, Vicki commentates with the ABC and is Manager of Community Programs with Sport and Recreation Queensland. Appointed to the SAHOF Board in February 2007

Graeme Willersdorf - (Ambassador)
Graeme has been on the business end of Australian sport for the past 20 years in his capacity as a Senior Executive with the Fosters Group. Supervising Fosters involvement at Olympic and Commonwealth Games, Graeme has been an equally familiar figure at Australian cricket played here and abroad, Americas Cups, and at all of the nation's major horse races not to mention the past ten years of the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix.
